DESCRIPTION:Your chance to walk the original 1825 route of the Stockton & Darlington Railway.\nStarting near the south west Durham coalfields and finishing at the site of the coal\nstaithes on the River Tees in Stockton. We are looking for 30 people to walk the whole\nroute over 5 days. We will be doing 2 short stretches of the route via train as there is\nno safe walking route close to the track bed. \n\nDay 1 – New Inn Crossroads to Shildon Station. (7 miles)\nDay 2 – Shildon Station (visit to Locomotion Museum) to North Road Station via\nHeighington Station. Train from Heighington to North Road. (4 miles)\nDay 3 – North Road Station (visit to Hopetown) to Dinsdale Station.\n(6 miles)\nDay 4 – Dinsdale to Allen’s West and the Yarm Branch. Train from Dinsdale to\nAllen’s West. (3 miles)\nDay 5 – Allen’s West to St. Johns Crossing and the River Tees. DESCRIPTION:Pease and Backhouse – an introduction to the families who brought the Stockton and Darlington Railway to life.\nDarlington Town Centre and the Quaker burial ground.\n1.5 miles (2 km)\, 1 hour 30 mins. Maximum group size 12. No dogs (except guide dogs). Very Easy. \nIn Darlington’s Quaker burial ground\, many members of the Pease and Backhouse families are buried. These were the characters responsible for the development of the Stockton and Darlington Railway. We will explore their stories of the origins and early years of the Railway. We will meet some of these characters\, and some of their interesting and colourful family members. \nAll of the walk takes place within Darlington town centre. There is a particular focus on the Quaker Burial ground where there are benches to sit on. \nThis is a ticketed event and requires the registration form completing for each person attending by pressing the book this event button and following the instructions on the form:
